Description

The classic copper schist deposit of Eisleben, located between Mansfeld in the Harz Mountains and Halle on the banks of the river Saale, is world famous for both, its sometimes huge Tin-Silver specimens, as well as excellent pieces of a mixtures of the two Nickel arsenide species Nickeline and Maucherite. Such as this piece with tombak-colored to light steel-gray Maucherite (the TYPE LOCALITY for Maucherite is Eisleben!), a relatively rare species, which is largely amorphous, while the more reddish-metallic Nickeline occurs in numerous, euhedral crystals with a strong metallic luster. This is definitely an excellent and classic piece since all of the mines in the area have been abandoned, the lost ones by the end of the last century.
