Description

Excellent cream-white Strontianite sheaves measuring up to 2.1 cm are perched on massive Barite, which is white with a greasy luster; a very characteristic association for the locality in the Silbernaal (“Silver nail”) district of the Harz Mountains. The Strontianite crystals are translucent with an adamantine luster, and excellent, tapered terminations. Specimens from this underground mine, which has been abandoned in 1992, have now become rare and good Strontianite specimens such as this one are from much older finds during the 163 years of operations.
