Description

What a large Silver ore specimen, extremely richly covered with acicular, dark red Proustite crystals over one centimeter in size. The specimen is crystallized all around. It does not come from the neighboring Saxon deposits of Schlema, as is usual for the species, but from the venerable Himmelsfürst Mine southwest of the town of Brand-Erbisdorf near Freiberg. The excellent euhedral crystals have an exquisite vitreous luster and the overall aesthetic speaks for itself. Good Proustite specimens from this locale are extremely rare, especially since this mine was better known for its great curly Wire Silver specimens. Since the Himmelsfürst Mine was only in operation from 1710 to 1896, specimens from there have long been considered historical classics and top pieces such as this one are guarded like treasures among collectors. Disclaimer: The color of the crystals is significantly darker in person than in the pictures.
