Description

The venerable Storch and Schöneberg Mine is located approximately five km southwest of the town of Siegen. At the turn of the century, it was one of Europe’s largest Iron ore mines. It has produced very attractive mineral specimens during its active period from 1585 to 1942, although these are rarely offered on the market. This is certainly due, among other things, to the fact that it was abandoned during the Second World War and a number of specimens that were previously salvaged were lost during the war. So let’s just enjoy this rare large cabinet-sized Calcite specimen with numerous translucent white, flat rhombohedral crystals measuring up to 3.1 cm in diameter. These are perched on cream white opaque Dolomite rhombohedrons. The icing on the cake is a dusting of golden sparkling Pyrite and slightly larger, brass-yellow, slightly tarnished Chalcopyrite crystals. A beautiful German specimen!
