Description

At first glance, this piece could be mistaken for Eudidymite, which is quite common in the East African alkali pegmatites at Mount Malosa. However, this piece is an excellently twinned, HUGE Epididymite with excellently formed prism faces and terminations. Its color is a light beige gemmy with a vitreous luster. This is definitely one of the best and largest twinned crystal of this rare Beryllium silicate ever found at this alpine-type deposit in the Chilwa Alkaline area. This material has always been rare because it was in the past often mislabeled as Eudidymite; it is basically no longer on the market. A specimen from the collection of Walter A. Weber, Munich, Germany.
