Description

This is a highly interesting specimen from the Cumbrian Allenheads Mine which was the most productive mine in the ore field under the Beaumonts. It is a cluster of partially deformed as well as cube-shaped Galena crystals of a lead-gray color that “build” a deformed cube-like aggregate. Dissolution textures of the crystal faces add to the bizarre look of specimen. The Galena crystals with a matt metallic luster are associated with colorless to delicately violet colored Fluorite cubes. As I said earlier, this is extremely interesting material from the collection of Dr. Manfred Schönfelder, who collected the specimen himself in 1978. A photo of the specimen taken by the collector made it to Mindat: it can be viewed under the Mindat Photo ID: 401418.
