Description

Kaolinite pseudomorphs after Orthoclase are very common in the numerous pits that quarry the China clay deposits of the St Austell area of Cornwall, England. However, the Melbur China Clay Pit at St. Stephen-in-Brannel is special. This quarry yields premium grade, near solid Kaolinite which, in this case is a 5 cm tall, doubly terminated floater of Kaolinite pseudomorph after Orthoclase floater. The color is a wonderfully consistent porcelain white and the former euhedral habit of the Orthoclase crystal is perfect all around. An absolute classic from the St. Austell mining area!
