Description

This is a sizeable chunk of Fire Opal from the classic Opal deposit Carbonera Mine in the central Mexican state of Queretaro. An up to 1.5 cm thick layer of translucent Opal, deep orange-brown and with a vitreous luster sits a small amount of Andesite matrix. Unfortunately, good, massive Fire opal specimens like this one are often turned into jewelry, good pieces rarely make it to the specimen collectors´ market. Good Fire Opal rough is a very sought after commodity by collectors!
