Description
Look at this almost textbook Calcite crystal (a scalenohedron with a cleaved termination) from the Icelandic Helgustadir Mine. Sharp, gemmy-translucent with a resinous luster. And on top of that, it shows birefringence for which Calcite crystals from Icelandic Helgustadir Mine are famous for. The piece is most likely pre-1975, the year the location received the status of a "Natural Monument" with collecting strictly forbidden since.
