Description
Sheaves of amber brown Barite crystals that reach up to 1 cm lenght are perched on a matrix of tiny Calcite crystals. They display a nice adamantine luster. A great contrast of the Barite to the matrix. Not the most common species found at the Bowers Quarry, which is one of the still few working quarries on the isle of Portland. Its history is significant, as the quarry used to pioneer the use of horizontal mine shafts to extract Portland Stone.
