Description
This is a classic German Vivianite specimen from a Lignite deposit north of Frankfurt. A 2.4 cm measuring spherical aggregate of dark blue-green Vivianite blades. Specimens from this locality have been known since the 19th century. The coal deposit was worked as open pit and has since been flooded and turned into a recreational lake. All that remaines of the mining legacy is the name of the lake” “Unterer Knappensee”, “Knappe” is an old German term for miner.
