Description

This is by far the best Tetrahedrite specimen that has passed through my hands over the decades. It is from this classic Harz locality Zilla Mine which was setup on the ore veins of the Rosenhöfer Gangzug near Clausthal. The mine was only in operation between 1797 and 1812. That gives an indication that only a few specimens have survived the centuries and are therefore rare and sought after. And this specimen here is an absolute KILLER PIECE with steel gray metallic crystals measuring 2.5 cm tall. They show striations on selected crystal faces, and some crystals have faintly beveled edges. All of the main crystals are intact and the few imperfections on the periphery do not significantly disrupt the overall appearance of the stage. The “back” of all crystals is covered by microcrystalline Calcite. A rare yet aesthetic level that is practically not available on the market. It comes with an old label whose origin I can´t clearly identify, but I´m pretty sure it comes from the Bally-Prior Museum in Schönewerd, Switzerland; the collection was sold a few decades ago.
