Description

An excellent and classic Sphalerite and Quartz specimen from Clausthal in the Central German Harz Mountains. The exact locality is the Kaiser Wilhelm Shaft or Kaiser Wilhelm II Shaft, which was the central conveyor and haulage conduit the Lead-Zinc ores mined in Clausthal Zellerfeld. The mine cease operations and was shut down in 1930. The mine yielded magnificent specimens such as this one. Highly lustrous, black-brown Sphalerite crystals with a diameter of almost 5 cm associated with stubby Quartz crystals which are arranged as white crystallized ribbons and spots on the specimen. Excellent contrast and superb aesthetics! These pieces have long been considered classic and specimens from here are practically not on the market. The specimen is from the Loorz collection, Bockswiese, Germany, and comes with a historic label.
