Description

A very outstanding and perfect cluster of black-brown octahedral Sphalerite crystals from the Himmelfahrt Mine on the northern outskirts of the city of Freiberg, Saxony. The crystals are as tall as 3 cm in diameter and have an extremely high vitreous luster. The crystal faces show wonderful triangular parquet textures. What a classic specimen from the Himmelfahrt Fundgrube, the last Freiberg mine in operation, was closed down in 1968 and reopened as a tourist mine.
