Description

The General Blumenthal coal mine in Recklinghausen, Germany, occasionally produced attractive Millerite specimens from 1879 when it started production until its closure in 2001. From those few pieces that were recovered over the years, even fewer were of the quality such as this specimen. An absolute exception with a wide-open vug richly filled with a jumble of fine-acicular, brass-yellow needles over 1 cm long. They have a great metallic luster. Exquisite material such as this piece was already extremely rare when the mine was in operation, but now it is practically no longer available on the market.
