Description

Isn’t this a wonderful Stephanite-Calcite specimen from St. Andreasberg in the Harz Mountains. There is no specific mine name attached to the specimen, however, I would personally guess it is from the Catharina Neufang Mine just north of St. Andreasberg. Excellent, well-defined Stephanite crystals measuring up to 0.6 cm in size extremely abundantly on tabular, transparent to translucent Calcite rhombohedrons. The six-sided Stephanite crystals that dot this miniature-sized specimen on all sides have an excellent steel gray color with a very fresh metallic luster. If you look closely you can see slight hopper growth on some of the terminations. A top specimen, especially for the venerable ore deposit of St. Andreasberg in the Harz Mountain, where a large part of the mining came to an end over 100 years ago.
