Over the centuries, the ancient tin deposits of Zinnwald near Altenberg in the Saxon Ore Mountains, intermittently mined from ca. 1440 until 1991, have repeatedly provided excellent specimens with Scheelite, Wolframite-Ferberite, Topaz and Cassiterite. And here we have another excellent example with Cassiterite crystals associated with a little purple Fluorite. The Cassiterite crystals have a superb metallic luster and are very sharp. Judging by the historic German label (that notes Quartz instead of Fluorite!), the piece probably dates from the beginning of the 20th century. Rare material that is hard to come by nowadays
