Description

An unusual specimen from a hydrothermal Lead-Zinc deposit that has been worked by the Romans. However, modern mining was not performed until the 18th century. And what you see here is an unusually aesthetic and rich in contrast specimen with numerous sparkling, dark-brown, lustrous Sphalerite crystals. They are sharp, well crystallized, translucent and gemmy. They are perched on a bed of tuny sparkling Quartz crystals. In 1978, the Lüderich Mine closed after 126 years of production due to depletion of the deposit and was turned into ... no not a tourist mine or a museum or a nature preserve, but a golf course.
