Description

The deposits at the world-famous "KM 3" west of the town of Lavrion set the standard for the world´s best Annabergite specimens for centuries. Incidentally, the name of this outcrop comes from a marker on the old road from Lavrion to Aghios Konstandinos and not, as is often incorrectly assumed, from a marker on the new road. I visited this site for the first time over 30 years ago and it was always backbreaking work to wrest a few good specimens from the extremely hard and tough rock. Due to the small size of the cleft, Annabergite on Calcite combinations such as this one have always been relatively rare and therefore sought after. In this case, both wonderful neon green individual Annabergite crystals and spherical clusters with a diameter of around 0.5 cm are perched on scalenohedral, slightly nickel-bearing Calcite with a maximum size of 1.2 cm. Of course, the Annabergites are perfectly crystallized and have wonderful luster and transparency. An absolute classic in excellent quality!
