Description

Until the end of the 1990s, Floss Ferri from Lavrion in Greece were considered to be significantly more common than those from Erzberg in the Austrian state of Styria. However, this opinion can now at least be questioned since the Austrian specimens are largely from big clefts recovered during the active mining period whereas the Greek specimens are post-mining. Nowadays, hardly any Greek collectors dare to crawl on all four through narrow ancient tunnels for about an hour, and then, at best, recover maybe a flat of specimens. The access to the site of the Floss Ferri find is well-hidden underground and known to only a few collectors. Furthermore, these ancient workings are veritable labyrinths with poor or no ventilation. I myself accessed this mine area with Greek collectors in 1992 and have refrained from going again ever since. This wonderfully shaped, snow-white "Medusa-like" specimen presents itself in the best and purest color, perfection and aesthetics. Definitely a top-level specimen!
