Description
What an excellent specimen with so-called “Papierspat” or Paper Spar. Just look at the disc-like, wafer-thin six-sided crystals and you’ll understand how this term got coined, In this case they are up to approx. 2 cm tall, with a faint brick red hue. This is a classic specimen from an abandoned Iron mine which ceased operations in 1973. Another interesting tidbit of information: A nearby town to the mine is called Eisenroth (literally translated Ironred), which probably got its name for the outcroppings of “Roteisenstein” (red iron stone or Hematite) the ore that was mined by the Falkenstein Mine.
