Description
This is a very excellent specimen with wafer-thin clusters of tabular Calcite crystals. When you look at the specimen, you will understand why the term "Paper Spar" was introduced. The Calcite crystals are pure white to colorless. They are extremely translucent and create a nice contrast to dark brown limonitic matrix. This is a top piece from the Falkenstein Iron mine, abandoned in 1973, a classic locality east southeast of the city of Cologne in Hesse. Hard to get and very coveted.
