Description

Pyromorphites from the world-famous San Andrés Mine in Córdoba, Spain were already well known in the first half of the 20th century, with the best pieces undoubtedly being recovered after the mine closed in 1997. These recovery excursions of collectors were extremely dangerous because the tunnel led through a steel pipe driven through a cave-in. But excellent Pyromorphite specimens were recovered at the time, just such as this one with countless hexagonal, barrel-shaped, bright green crystals measuring 4 mm. They line in a vug in a matrix that consists largely of massive Pyromorphite with some limonitic layers. This is truly an excellent piece from a locality that is closed.
