Description
The Melanite finds made this locality known among collectors. It is the black Andradite variety that is found in the quarries at the Kirchberg in the Kaiserstuhl volcanics. And this specimen from just that locality is doted with innumerable sharp, dark brown Melanite dodecahedra up to 3 mm on a beige matrix. Very rare and classic! Collecting without tools(!) had been tolerated until the quarries were declared a Nature Reserve, and entry is strictly forbidden.
