Description

This is not just an old Austrian classic but also an alpine classic from the Lüsens Valley southeast of Innsbruck. The valley is a well known locality for Pinite pseudomorphs after Andalusite such as this small cabinet-sized specimen. Up to 5.6 cm tall crystals are beige-brown and show typical square-rectangular cross-sections. They show a greasy luster. Pinite is defined as pseudomorphs of silicate minerals, especially Cordierite, Nepheline and Scapolite, and is composed primarily of Mica and Clay minerals. A beautiful alpine piece!
