Description
Clausthalite is a rare Lead-selenide, an isometric member of the Galerna Group. This specimen is covered with lead-gray to tombak-colored small grains of Clausthalite. A rich specimen from the type locality Clausthal, a mining area in and around the town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld in the Harz Mountains where the mining history dates back to the 12th century, when monks started mining for Silver and Lead. Its heydays were in the 16th to 18th centuries and finally ceased in the 1930s when the ore deposits were either exhausted or mining became uneconomic. Rare material!!
