Description

A very interesting banded Agate with the blue color of glacier ice. This blue banded Aragonite variety is called “Zeiringite”, and was first described from the locality Oberzeiring. So this place could be called type locality but as the species is a variety, the place which is an ancient Silver, Iron, and Baryte mining area misses out on the honors. The color of minerals is always an interesting topic, some causes of color are well known, some are wild guesses at best. In the case of Zeiringerite, however, Austrian researchers determined in the early 1960s, that Zeiringerite is the variety of Aragonite colored by oriented inclusions of Aurichalcite. You can get a Styrian classic that is rare on the market in this quality.
