Description
A beautiful slab with an undulating structure that is richly covered with dark amber, translucent Fluorite cubes. They are sharp with a resinous luster with inclusions of Chalcopyrite and black grains of Iron oxides (Goethite?). The specimen has tiny imperfections on some of the edges, but has superb overall aesthetics. The Hermine Mine has an interesting history that goes back to ca. 1500 when the Fluorspar deposit was mined for Silver. A historic shaft was discovered in the early 1950s when modern operations started. From then on the mine was worked on and off until 1987 when it was closed due to exhaustion of the deposit. That makes the Hermine Mine the longest running mine in the Fluorspar district of Wölsendorf.
