Description

Lets’ face it, Crocoite is almost generally considered an Australian species. However, there is a couple of localities that have produced specimens that can rival the pieces from down under. Such as this deep orange Crocoite specimen, which is covered with prismatic crystals of the Lead-Chromium oxide on both sides. Vitreous luster, and excellent color. The specimen most likely originates from the large find from 1977 in Callenberg Nord-1, the Saxon Nickel deposit that was worked from the early 1950s until 1990. Specimens have now almost entirely disappeared from the market and such rich and aesthetic pieces are hard to come by, after all, the locality is extinct, the quarry has been used as a dump.
