Description
A specimen of so-called "knitted" silver, heavily coated with Cobalt Arsenides—mainly Safflorite. A rich specimen from the Marienberg ore district, among the rarest in the Saxon Ore Mountains and therefore very sought after. The Marienberg district has a rich mining history: In 1519 the first silver vein was found, which started the mining activity around Marienberg. Mining for Silver ore lasted until 1904, when the last mine still in operation in the Marienberg mining district had to shut down.
