Description

This is a superb sculptural specimen with numerous radial clusters of longprismatic, slightly reddish Kermesite crystals with a matt metallic luster. The approximately 1.5 cm tall acicular crystals are attached to little Pyrite-containing matrix and some white “Fettquartz” (massive milky Quartz with a greasy luster). This specimen is sculptural and attractive, it is very aesthetic and compares favorably to the material that came out in the 1970s. These Zimbabwe Kermesite specimens are definitely incomparable with the admittedly aesthetic but very common ones from China, but they carry a historic significance. The best known specimens of Kermesite had been collected at this locality in Zimbabwe many years ago until the Chinese deposits were developed. Once the market was “flooded: with Chinese specimens, the Zimbabwean became more and more rare and exceedingly harder to obtain, especially in this superb quality.
