Description
You are looking at a wonderful matrix specimen with a 4 cm tall, faint but distinctly purple Amethyst scepter. This undamaged main crystal is gemmy transparent with a strong vitreous luster, and surrounded by a cluster of translucent Amethyst crystals.
These Amethyst specimens are very characteristic for the locality, which is generally given as “Las Vigas de Ramirez”, however, mindat.org points out that, “This locality has established its name in the mineral collecting world as the source of highly aesthetic amethyst crystals. However, this is not correct and the true sources of the crystals are the several mines around the Piedra Parada village, Municipality of Tatatila.”
