Description
I was well aware that the pink variety of Quartz, Rose Quartz, occurred at the Phosphate pegmatite of the Hühnerkobel, in northeastern Bavaria. However, I did not expect it to be in this quality, which is almost worth cutting; an amazing piece with a clear pink color, super vitreous luster, and gemmy translucency. This must be a fairly old specimen, as the mining activities at the Hühnerkobel ceased in 1924, the underground workings backfilled. Today, only the back wall of the quarry is preserved, but collecting is strictly prohibited. The former quarry is now a natural reserve.
