Description
The Teufelsgrund Mine in Münstertal, Black Forest, was a Silver, Copper and Lead mine operated since medieval times; Fluorite was not mined until the 20th century. Reports of the first mining activities dates before the year 953, and the final closure of the mine happened in 1958. Since 1970 the mine has been operated as a visitor mine.
That little introduction should give you a pretty good idea where this specimen comes from. It is indeed an excellent Teufelsgrund Fluorite specimen with brownish, translucent cubes up to 1.8 cm on edge. A beautiful resinous luster, beveled edges, and interesting pattern on the crystal faces. The specimen probably comes from the Michael Tunnel (3rd level) where I saw identical crystals from a cleft in 1984. Top specimen, what else can I say?
