Description
Although located close to the well-known Lead-Zink-Silver mining area of Bad Ems northwest of Frankfurt, specimens from Holzappel, the Lead-Zinc-Silver –Copper mine less than 15 km east of Bad Ems are much rarer. This Holzappel specimen has steel gray highly metallic Galena crystals up to 0.4 cm on olive green rhombohedral Siderite with some Quartz crystals on a matrix of massive ore. The historic label from the Loorz collection, Bockswiese states that the specimen is from a 1927 find when the mine was still active. It closed after WW II after two centuries of production.
