Description
Here we have a superb monster sized piece and an eyecatcher all the way. This outstanding museum sized Realgar specimen is from the famous find in late 2005 from the 280 meter level at the Put V of Baia Sprie Mine. This amazing find produced a limited amount of Realgar specimens and they are considered to be among the best ever found at this classic locality. Countless of this, beautiful, bright, saturated red prismatic crystals of Realgar to 2 cm in length are profusely scattered upon this very large cabinet specimen and the crystals contrast well with the light gray matrix. There are some acicular metallic crystals of Stibnite between the Realgar crystals as well. The Realgar crystals are almost translucent and also exhibit bright red internal reflections. The display side of this piece is just stunning with shocking red Realgar crystals distributed in loose groups and tighter jumbled clusters of crystals. However, the clusters are not too tightly clustered so that their great prismatic crystal form is obvious and the light gray matrix is apparent within and around the crystals. Only less imperfections but considering the size of the piece they actually do not count at all. Like all Realgar specimens, this should be preserved in a dark environment, only exposed to light for short periods of time for viewing.
