Description
This is an incredible specimen that looks more like a plant than a mineral specimen. A spray of acicular Berthierite crystal with a strong metallic luster, very contrasting with yolk-yellow CALCITE, which appears grainy at first glance and reveals its disc-shaped habit under slight magnification. Despite the yellow Calcite stealing the show the main species is Berthierite, an Iron-Antimony sulfide, that pierces the Calcite balls on both sides, front and back. To fully enjoy this incredible pristine specimen, it needs to be mounted on a turntable. For over a century, the Herja Mine in the Baia Mare mining district has produced some of the world´s finest well-crystallized Stibnite specimens but has many more surprises in store. Just look at this specimen!
