Description
A specimen with countless dark brown Sphalerite crystals, some of which are slightly distorted. They cover a piece of typical Lüderich matrix. The slightly translucent crystals have a great resinous luster. The display side of the specimen is pristine. A top specimen for the locality, the historic Lüderich Lead Zinc mine which was actively mined on and off since the early 1850s although traces of Roman mining efforts have been discovered. It had its heydays around 1950, and in 1978, the Lüderich Mine closed after over 125 years due to the dropping commodities price and the exhaustion of the reserves.
