Description
This specimen has innumerable well-formed and sharp deep blue Benitoite crystals in addition to an individual black Neptunite crystals on a bed of snowy white Natrolite. The crystals of both species are sharp, translucent, and lustrous. A really great specimen of the California State Gem Benitoite. There are numerous anecdotes about how Benitoite was discovered in the early 1900s in San Benito County. One of them alleges that the prospectors way back when hoped they had found blue diamonds, even as they were shaped like triangles. While the Diamond find did mot happen, they DID find a than anknown species: Benitoite. The Dallas Gem Mine, operated on and off by numerous individuals, would continue to produce occasionally fabulous pockets of rich blue Benitoite, often associated with Neptunite.
