Description

A nice combination specimen with Austinite and Adamite from the small Jean-Baptiste Mine in the NW corner of the underground mining area below Agios Konstantinos in Lavrion, Greece. Both species on this specimen are light gray-green in color, sharp, with a greasy-silky luster and perched on characteristic gossan matrix. The two species who may seem alike at first glance can be told apart by their Mohs hardness (Austinite 4-4½; Adamite 3½) but also by their crystal form: Adamite displays triangular terminations, while Austinite shows the "saddle roof". The icing on the cake is a Calcite coating on one side of the specimen.
