Description
The Erzengel Gabriel Mine was a lead mine that was operated probably since the Middle Ages. During its heydays from ca. 1747 to 1833 Silver bearing Galena and Lead were the main ores.
But the locality also produced exceptional Fluorite specimen. And you don´t need to look further than this specimen. Very attractive blue Fluorite cubes to 1 cm with a faint greenish hue on edge on typical matrix. The crystals are sharp and translucent with great growth textures in the faces. This is an exceptional specimen for a mine that has been finally abandoned after WW II, although dumps and some access is still possible. However, be reminded, that when Wolfgang visited the mine about 38 years ago, he came back frustrated and empty handed: no finds in the Strongly weathered host rock and the tiny vugs.
