Description
There are only very few mineral species that occur in just one or two localities. One of these minerals is Henritermierite, which was discovered in Morocco in the 1960s. The Kalahari Manganese Fields of South Africa are the second locality for the species worldwide. It is a rare garnet with an unusual for garnet tetragonal (!) crystal system, and occurs in attractive reddish-brown crystals. On this specimen, Henritermierite occurs with the classic Kalahari Manganese Field association of shiny black Hausmannite and brownish Andradite. A great piece with a rare garnet from a world-class locality!
