Description

Good Chalcocite specimens from the Flambeau Mine in Wisconsin are undoubtedly among the classic finds in the USA. Especially since this mine, the deposit was discovered in 1968, was only in operation for a short time from 1993 to 1997 and as of 2022, is completely reclaimed. Today, "Flambeau Chalcosite" is probably one of the most sought-after metallic sulfide not just for US collectors, as the aforementioned short period of operation only yielded a limited number of good pieces. And this is a wonderful and very aesthetic example of it. A miniature-sized specimen with tightly packed, extremely large crystals of a steel gray color, a metallic luster, and a wonderful slightly bluish patina. The crystals with a generally six-sided habit reach a size of just under 1 cm and this piece is certainly one of the better pieces from this famous locality.
