Description

This is a small cabinet-sized specimen with tombac-colored, partially black patinated, distorted crystals of the rare Copper-Antimony sulfide Famatinite. They are associated with small, sparkling brass-colored Pyrite crystals. Famatinite is usually one of the mineral species that is relatively difficult to find. On one hand because it is relatively difficult to detect and often mistaken for better-known members of the Stannite group, and on the other hand because it often occurs massive and quite rarely in idiomorphic tetragonal crystals. In this case however, we have a specimen with large crystal aggregates about one cm in size. Furthermore, the species of this piece has been confirmed by an analysis. The specimen with the rare and excellent Famatinite was formerly housed in the Dr. Manfred Schönfelder collection.
