Description
The municipality Binn not only boasts the famous Lengenbach Quarry (see auction items #5401 & 5410) which is type locality for 51 (!) mineral species, but also alpine Quartz deposits such as the clefts of the Turbhorn area some six kilometers northeast of the quarry. And this excellent gemmy, perfect Quartz crystal comes from one of these clefts: A 7 cm tall, transparent crystal showing the Tessin habit with the typical taper towards the termination. Great horizontal striations on the prism faces and an unusual faint smoky hue set this piece apart.
