Description

This is an unusual and great specimen of the Quartz variety Chalcedony. Beige-colored, translucent vermicular “tentacles” with a vitreous luster. What looks like a cave formation is actually a pseudomorph. Mindat.org perfectly explains Chalcedony from the Withlacoochee River in northern Florida "as the source of beautiful Chalcedony filled coral. It is typically called "Agatized Coral" but is actually a Chalcedony pseudomorph after coral heads. Found in tertiary marine sediments, the coral was smothered in volcanic ash about 10 million years ago, leaving cavities which then filled with chalcedony. Believe it or not, this material is the state mineral of Florida".
