Description
This is certainly not the most exiting specimen of the auction, but it is certainly one of the more interesting ones: Steatite a variety of Talc and often called Soapstone from the Johanneszeche near the town of Göpfersgrün in Germany´s northern Bavaria region. The now abandoned quarry is mainly known for pseudomorphs of Soapstone after Quartz, but there are also other species that have been replaced by Steatite. In this case more or less flat-tabular crystals, the morphology of which reminds me a bit of Apatite, but to be honest, I don´t really know. Definitely a specimen of high historic and scientific value.
