Description
This is a great specimen with both sides, front and back, peppered with black iron-rich Sphalerite on white, sparkling Quartz micro crystals. The Sphalerite crystals show all the crystal faces from the isometric playbook, they have their typical resinous luster, and are undamaged in most cases. Historic material from the Smallcleugh mine southeast of the village of Nenthead in Cumbria. The mine has bee worked on and off (mostly off) since 1777! Amateurs explored the mine in the 1960s, and if you apply for permission from the English Heritage Trusts you might actually be able to visit the historic former ore mine.
