Description

Another one of these specimens where one can roll a dice to help one decide: Calcite or Pyrite specimen? One side of the piece is covered with light pink-brown Calcite scalenohedrons, many of which are doubly terminated. The color of the Calcite crystals indicate a certain Manganese content and the crystals will certainly have a wild reaction to ultraviolet light. The opposite side of the piece consists of multifaceted and intricate gold-colored pyrite crystals with a cubic basic habit. Although Pyrite is a very common species worldwide, it is less common in the Kalahari Manganese Fields. A top specimen for the locality from the 1990s.
