Description
A sharp, amber-colored, translucent Barite single crystal on typical Elk Creek matrix. The crystal has the characteristic warped chisel shape, a high vitreous luster and very good terminations. Elk Creek Barite is considered an American classic, with the big septarian concretions from the western South Dakota locality having produced abundant Calcite specimens as well as some fossils. However, few choice specimens such as this one with good amber-colored Baryte crystals on contrasting yellow Calcite matrix have been recovered.
